Through Nature Friendships Blossom

Updated: Jan 3

Ultra-Modern Book Review of The Tales of Toby and Milo: A Story on Friendship & Adventure Written by Nicole Marshall and Illustrated by Sekar Azahra

Through vivid character descriptions and vibrant, panoramic backdrops, we encounter two kind-hearted strangers who meet by chance in the woods with their sweet pets. First, we meet a lovely young man named Henry from the city who decides one day to take his pets, Toby the cat and Milo the dog, on their first hiking trip. There, they meet a charming young woman named Emily and her dog Max. Every few years, Emily goes to visit her grandmother’s old cabin. Knowing the forest, she offers to take the trio on a tour of breathtaking locations. And just like nature, a friendship blossoms between Henry and Emily.

It’s not just Henry and Emily who find companionship. Their pets Toby, Milo, and Max bond and demonstrate poignant lessons about friendship through their adventures. The woods are a new experience for Toby and Milo. Neither has ever smelled the fresh forest air, seen the mountains, caught a bullhead fish in a massive lake, heard frogs, ridden a boat, or tasted fireflies!

While it was fun for all, some of the new experiences made Milo nervous. Luckily, he had his best pal, Toby, encouraging him to be brave, and his new friend, Max, taught him about all the animals in the area and gave him tools to cope with his anxiety in new experiences.

As someone who loves nature and animals just as much as Henry and Emily, I thoroughly enjoyed The Tales of Toby and Milo: A Story on Friendship & Adventure. Author Nicole Marshall is a magnificent writer and storyteller. She uses incredible detail. With the unbelievable wildlife graphics created by illustrator Sekar Azahra, the pair will introduce young readers to the power and beauty of mother nature and friendships. Their life-like depictions of characters and events will help readers identify with them and imagine the scenes, making it the perfect book for visually impaired students.
