The Truth Behind HER Testimony, A Memoir of Faith

ULTRA-MODERN BOOK Review of

Book Review of The Patient is Wearing Lipstick: Emerging from The Shadow of Death by Artisha T. Bolding

Artisha T. Bolding's memoir The Patient is Wearing Lipstick: Emerging from The Shadow of Death lends credence to the absolute power of prayer and faith. When people look at present-day Artisha T. Bolding, they see a triple threat, author, minister, and certified life coach. But before Bolding's hospitalization in 2017, Artisha was set upon a different life path, one overflowing with drinking, cursing, and cheating. The Patient is Wearing Lipstick is the divine chronicle of Artisha T. Bolding's path to her testimony and ultimate life's destiny.

The narrative structure of The Patient is Wearing Lipstick is as unique as Bolding herself. I love how she starts and ends her story with a prayer for readers; such a beautiful sentiment, especially since Bolding understands the power of prayer. Her memoir does not commence with her birth but when she nearly dies at age 35.

I treasure Bolding's transparency. It appears to be both scary and cathartic for the author. Part of a testimony is sharing the good with the bad, and Bolding delivers. Most pivotal is how she took accountability for her actions and learned something from every situation. Bolding encourages readers to do the same, including publishing their testimony.

The Patient is Wearing Lipstick documents the recovery of Artisha T. Bolding's body, mind, and spirit. I love a well-written book that educates readers on life's lessons while being simultaneously entertaining. I laughed, cried, and learned about healthcare. But most importantly, I learned that one could do a lot of things with mistakes: you can repeat the mistake, admit to the mistake (no matter how embarrassing), learn from the mistake, grow from the mistake, and help others not make the same mistake, but what you cannot do is let that mistake define who you are as a person. God would not, so neither should you.
