"Stop! You Cannot Touch Me There!"

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

BOOKBUTTERFLY Group Review of My Body is Special by LaKeesha Walrond, Ph.D.

Eva is a happy little six-year-old who loves wearing green, swimming at the recreation center, and playing in the park with her friends. In this book, Eva learns that it is unacceptable for anyone to touch the "special places" on her body. Join Eva and her mother as they share their plan to keep Eva's body safe from sexual assault.

What would you do if someone touched your body’s "special places"? Learn with Eva that no one, including those she knows and loves, can touch her "special places." If they do, Eva learns that she can scream, "Stop! No! You cannot touch me there!" She learns she can react by screaming, running, and finding someone she trusts to help.

Is it weird that you loved a book about protecting children from sexual predators? Because I did. I cannot stress the importance of having this brilliant teaching tool in your young child's library, right next to the fire safety, eating healthy, and stranger danger books. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. I know we do not like to think that someone close to us might hurt our children, but it does happen, and this book will help you prepare your child for something you hope they will never need.

My Body is Special is child-friendly and age-appropriate with colorful and cute illustrations. The author states that the book should be read one-on-one or in a small group. This book also contains an easy-to-read safety plan chart in the back. A companion workbook, My Body is Special (Let’s Talk About It Workbook), is sold separately.
