The Pursuit of Love & Hope: A Short Collection of Poems, written by Allistar Banks and Demetrius Minor and illustrated by Sujata Saha is like a message in a bottle for teens and young adults. This splendid collection of 48 poems transpires during an essential part of young adulthood, a time of self-awareness and self-exploration. We go through all this, hoping that someone will accept us and love us for who we are one day. So often, we look for someone to make us happy and whole, but Allistar Banks and Demetrius Minor's poetry teaches us that true love starts within.
Through free verse spoken word and storytelling, Allistar Banks and Demetrius Minor describe a tale of a girl finding herself and finding love. Banks' poetry brought out some of my own emotions and experiences. My favorite love poems are "Dreaming of You," "See Me After Dark," and "Hands." Readers will sense the passion within each verse as the author expresses love's highs. My favorite Taylor Swift-style heartbreak poems are "Plans Change," "There's No Meaning Left," "Bleeding Cuts," and "Emptiness." Banks sums up these trying times as lessons learned. She uses it as a time for reflection and inspection of her soul.
Every poem in The Pursuit of Love & Hope: A Short Collection of Poems represents various aspects of love and would be an excellent addition to any home or school library.
Love is complicated, but the hope is it is worth it.
